World Cup 2006

Yes, I think Iran should be banned from soccer’s 2006 World Cup. Unlike the respectful 86% of participants which believe that would be politics interfering in sports, I think there is a serious link here. Assume that I have a very naughty boy who acts like an idiot when I am having a very important party. Then, after the party is over, I would approach him, informing him that I am not going to bring him to the movies he liked that much. My reason would be like “when you do not respect my affairs, why should I respect yours?” During the past three years, I have been engaged more than anything else with Optimization. Sometimes for color image compression and then for optimal clustering. Now, I am doing an optimization work in cellular networks. This experience has taught me that even in a very theoretical problem, spotting the optimal answer is a fantasy. Also, many times, there are several optimal answers, none of them better than the others. When I look at my life with Azadeh I see the lack of optimality too. Almost every time that we have a problem over something, I find that its more about taste than reason. For example, Azadeh believes that I am spoiling the cats by feeding them whenever they mew to me. In contrast I see no reason for not helping them to be happy to the maximum extent that they can, and hence making them friends with myself! Azadeh has her own reasons like “its a waste of money” or “its harmful to them”. I also have my own view “how do you know how much food they need?” Also, recently I found a label in a cat food can which says a 300gr can should be fed to a cat in two days. That’s about three times Azadeh’s standard.
When our small affairs like feeding a cat is trapped in local minima to this extent, why would we expect the world-level events to be correlated to truth? I think, there are big guys in the world. They have the money and the media to control people’s minds. Love it or hate it, they are there. you can go and fight them. That’s your choice, but it is almost certain that you would be destroyed. Yet, there is another way to try to remain in surface. You have to find a good friend amongst these big guys.I am a graduate student. Hence, one of my main concerns is to do research and to publish my results. In this way I can proceed to higher levels. But, do you think publishing a paper is only about writing some facts and sending it to a journal? Not at all! you have to be working with a respectful advisor. Also, you have to be from a well known institute. Haven’t you ever seen weak papers which carry giants’ names? There are big names everywhere. Lets return to our problem. Iran is not acting as a responsible member of the united nations. Iranians are supporting terrorism. The funny point is that we just try to show off that we support terrorism. If you take a look at the names of Alqaeda leaders, none of them is Iranian. But, we have Ahmadinejad that speaks like an Alqaeda leader. Also, we are strangely working on our nuclear programs. Others have atomic bombs, odd countries like Pakistan, where Alqaeda was born. But, everybody is looking at Iran, because Rafsanji states publicly how Iran would ask Pakistan to bomb Israel. That’s exactly how we become the bad boy. We even advertise our right to have nuclear facilities in a friendly soccer game with a German team. From this, I conclude that the world has all rights to stop Iranian from pursuing their ambitions. Though, as an Iranian I know that this won’t help at all. But, if I were a Canadian I would hate to play with a team which is from a cruel nation like Iran. Just assume what would you feel (if you are Iranian) if Iran’s national soccer team was due to play with a team of one of those separatist groups in the Africa who do a Massacre one a few years?
