Chief Talks About Retaliation

Kamangir | February 25, 2006 | Category Iran

He is either talking the first thing which gets into his mind or is fully aware of the consequences of threatening US, Britain, and Israel in current situation. The supreme commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary guards, known in Iran as Sepah, Major General Rahim Safavi should have no doubt that when he talks about “striking at them [US, Britain, and Israel] in retaliation”, western politicians smile and say “do you have any doubt that these guys are making nuclear bombs?” Safavi accused those countries of carrying out the Wednesday’s bomb attacks and stated “Muslim nations will not put up with this impudence” (see). Although, he did not mention how many “Muslims” are going to help him in his “revenge”, I am personally afraid of what he means.
Sepah has been proved to be engaged in “missions” in Lebanon, Bosnia, and also in Iraq. Furthermore, there are serious evidences that Sepah has been behind many violent events in the last few decades. For example, when Saeed Hajjarian, president Khatami’s advisor and a top member of Mosharekat party, was shot in front of his office in a heavily guarded district in Tehran, the first accused party was Sepah. Although, the judiciary tried its best to keep details secretly, it was found out by journalists that the men who carried out the attack were using equipment borrowed from Sepah. Sepah officials claim that somebody “abused” his power. Also, Sepah is still vowing for some of his members kidnapped in Lebanon more than twenty years ago. One of these men who are assumed to be on a “cultural mission” is a top Sepah official. They do not give more information on the kind of “cultural misson” these men were involved in.
Hence, when Safavi talks about attackers “receiving a heavy slap on the face from God” and also adds “and the believers in the Imams” he is not very much concerned with Muslims. To my understanding, he is talking about serious men with proper equipment and training which he thinks he has.
When one threatens you, you can start threatening them, too. You may succeed in making the decision for them hard, but you’d better have the power to fight, too. You know, just in case.
