Cartoons, Again
Kamangir | April 3, 2006 | Category Iran

It seems that for some people the Cartoon’s affair is not over. “Borders and Waldenbooks stores will not stock the April-May issue of Free Inquiry magazine because it contains cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad that provoked deadly protests among Muslims in several countries” (see).
On Hoder’s Claim

Important Notice: Please read this note before reading this post.
Hossein Derakhshan has posted a new video on his weblog in which he teaches a Brazilian-Israeli girl how to pronounce some Persian swears (see). He states that he was chatting with Rinat in a cafe where he did something that he mentions to be “not very sincere” (my translation) and continues that Iranians who live outside Iran know that it is done everywhere in the world. I understand that he means either Iranians tend to teach people sexy Persian words or that everybody seems to be teaching others how to pronounce curses in the language they don’t know. I have been living outside Iran for about six months. My experience is that when you talk with ordinary people here, they would even lower their voice if the answer to your question includes a word like “sexâ€. The worst thing I have ever heard here was the expression “F-wordâ€. On the other hand, I have friends from Canada, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Jordan and I do not know one single swear in their languages. I don’t think any of them have learnt any sexy Persian word from me, either. As a matter of fact, I do not remember the last time I heard the words he is teaching the girl.
“War is a Good Thing”
Kamangir | April 3, 2006 | Category Iran
In a post I talked about the verse in Iran’s Sepah logo (see). After that, when I was looking at the logo again, I found out another icon in it. Have you noticed the sketch of a globe at the background? That would be more interesting when you realize that one of the slogan’s of revolution, which is now forgotten, was “to export the revolution to the world”. Khomeini once mentioned something like “with the war [between Iran and Iraq] we exported our revolution to the world (Persian “ما با جنگ انقلابمان را به جهان صادر کردیم”). He was the same man who stated “war is a good thing” (Persian “جنگ چیز خوبی است”), at least for him it was.
It seems that the Iranian army is pursuing the will to threaten the enemies (refer to the slogan on Sepah’s logo (see)). Very recently, we had the news about Iranians test-firing a huge rocket capable of carrying nuclear warfare and attacking several targets while being invisible to the radar (see). Also, Iranians claim to have produced the a super-fast torpedo (see). An Iranian webpage close to the government does not hesitate to show his joy that American Navy in the Persian Gulf will now sense the heat (see). It seems that some people still think “war is a good thing”. Sleep well Khomeini, you have at least transferred the revolution to many Iranians’ hearts. Leave them the job to transfer it to the world.
p.s. Just for your information, the torpedo seems to have been developed by Sepah (see). Also, a commander from Sepah reported the rocket’s test-firing (see).
