Kamangir (Archer)
An Iranian looking at Iran as a foreigner…
Did you know that Kamangir turns four tomorrow? See the classic "Hello World" dated October 17, 2008!
Probable Story
Kamangir | July 11, 2006 | Category Iran
Looking at the previous shows of Ahmadinejad in cities far from the capital I can imagine a story behind these two pictures. Basically, poverty attacks more vulnerable people including women and children. So, it is understandable if these people are the first ones whom rush to see the savior after hearing that the president is coming to town. Watching anxiously and listening carefully they look for hope in their leader’s words. Fortunately or Regretfully, you choose one, this man knows how to make people applause. I am curious to see how the same people would think after a few years.

As much as I know, Zaban Sara, means the language-place, is an institution which publishes educational books in foreign languages such as English. It seems that someone is doing a commercial campaign benefiting from president’s popular trip.
Puppets Who Kill
Kamangir | July 11, 2006 | Category Iran
This picture is taken during a march for female members of Basij. The headband reads “Oh! Zahra”, referring to the prophet’s daughter as a mentor. Isn’t it amazing to see a lady boiling under these strange cloths and holding a gun while she can be easily imagined wearing a top and a pair of sunglasses? Isn’t it amazing how ideology dictates our behaviors? I can imagine many arguing that wearing a top is another ideology. My point is the confidence and determination that you should have to grab a gun and decide “I am going to a fight with the world”. Basically, I admire this lady. She is so determined about her goal and has a very wel-defined theory for the whole universe. Though, I can’t say I envy her. At the end of the day she is a poor puppets. The interesting part is that she probably thinks that I am a poor puppet. Isn’t all this great? Probably not for those who get killed in this funny game.
Politics of a Foul
Kamangir | July 11, 2006 | Category Iran
The Iranian state-run ultra-right newspaper Kayhan writes on the cover “Zeidan left football proudly”. The article describes “the French capitan accepted to loose the trivial glory…to defend his Islamic identity and to prove his obedience to his religious beliefs. He did not touch the cup but he has the Islamic world admiring him” (see).
Logical Foul
Kamangir | July 11, 2006 | Category Iran
The chief of the foreign affairs and national security commitee in the Iranian parliament sent a letter to Zinédine Zidane (see). Acknowledging his “on-time defence for his personal and Islamic identity” he appreciated “his logical reaction†which was important because “not only a Muslim is not a terrorist but also the main slogan of Islam is peace”.
Another Execution Show
Kamangir | July 11, 2006 | Category Iran
Another execution show in Iran, this time in Isfahan. A man convicted of being engaged in kidnapping of 340 girls is being hung up in public.
Ahmadinejad+Spider-Man
Kamangir | July 11, 2006 | Category Iran
During his visit to East Azerbaiejan, Ahmadinejad is repeating the show of “kids on the stage”. This time he is accompanied by a boy who wears a headband reading an Islamic slogan, probably “Oh! Fateme!” which refers to the prophet’s daughter. Also, the boy is wearing army cloths, probably because his dad is a martyr or a member of Basij or another army. To have a better look the boy is showing off his new toy, probably something from Spider-Man. It seems that Ahmadinejad quite likes watching the boy shooting the crowed.
Anti-Israel Pirates
Kamangir | July 11, 2006 | Category Iran

After the Friday prayers a protest was arranged to denounce new Israeli invasion of Gaza. As always, children were askedto participate.
The Obligation
Kamangir | July 11, 2006 | Category Iran
According to the Islamic law boys have to start saying their prayers when they turn fifteen. Though, I remember we were forced to say prayers at school before that with the justification that “won’t you like the tree you plant to blossom sooner?” I remember that many of us did exactly what these boys are doing; one is looking at something far, another one is having a nap, and the third one is yawning.
The picture is taken in today’s Friday prayers.
Ahmadinejad, The Miracle
Kamangir | July 11, 2006 | Category Iran
Ahmadinejad is on another provincial trip and this obviously means tons of new photographs from the peculiar events that always happen where he goes. This picture is taken during the first days of Ahmadinejad’s trip. The man is holding a book titled “Ahmadinejad, the miracle of the third millennium” (Persian: اØÙ…دی نژاد معجزه هزاره سوم ). The book is authored by his chief of staff’s wife, Fateme Rajabi (see). The book argues that its title is literally correct. When I heard this news before I didn’t even bother posting it here. To me it was just a funny joke. However, finding the book in this picture I am convinced that I was absolutely wrong. The hollow text on top means “Allah! Please make Mehdi’s appearance happen sooner”.
