“Worshiping Coca Cola”, Hoax or Real?

This image is circulating in the web. Search for “Coca Cola Islam” in Google. At the time I am writing this there was two references to the image (see). See it also mentioned here (see) translated to English here (see) and here (see) translated to English here (see).

Actually, this is not the first time the beverage company is claimed to have been such naively insulting. The picture shown below is another example, found in the web in 2002 and proved to be a hoax (see). See another one here (see).

I can’t find anything from Coca Cola but this seems to be a part of the company’s response to the early hoax.

We are aware of false advertisements featuring holy sites in the Middle East that have been circulating on the Internet. The advertisements are fabricated and have not been produced by The Coca-Cola Company. The Coca-Cola Company has full respect for the cultures and religions in all of the nearly 200 countries in which we operate.

As mentions the author in (see) “For decades Coca-Cola has been one of the world’s leading companies in demonstrating a remarkable savvy for tailoring their products and advertisements in accordance with local cultures and customs all over the globe”. Why would Coca Cola do something like that? I am thinking why we need so many reasons to hate each other.

p.s. Try to imagine the kid who has done this and how important he feels to be now.

p.s.2 If you Iranian you probably remember this picture. The claim was that the Islamic Republic is drowning a historical monument. It seems to be hoax, too (see).
