Holy Donkey Sends a Newspaper to Exile

Kamangir | September 11, 2006 | Category Iran

Shargh Newspaper (Persian: روزنامه شرق) (see) was one of the last places the generation of reformist journalists had the opportunity to communicate to the nation. Now, it is banned, partly because of publishing a cartoon which reportedly shows “a donkey with a halo around it”. I can’t find a copy of the cartoon in the web. The only webpage which published a copy does not work now (see). This journalist provided a copy in his weblog (see).

p.s. BBC confirms the cartoon (see). It is published in Shargh on September 8th. The page is missing from the archive now (see).

It seems that Ahmadi nejad has a thin skin. If Bush wanted to close all newspapers and/or websited that published his cartoons or Bush-jokes more than half of US newspapers would be closed, not to mention 3/4 of european and Canadian newspapers. By the way the cartoon is funny.

In Poland our president is Kaczynski and prime minister is his brother so we have jokes about ducks (”kaczka” in polish means a duck and “kaczynski” means something similar to a duckman) but he did not close any newspapers yet.
