Islamic Sexy Fashion

Kamangir | September 30, 2006 | Category Iran

Ahmadinejad attended the celebration for the beginning of the academic year. As always, it began with reciting Quran, I guess, which was followed by Ahmadinejad’s speech. The interesting part, and the contradicting one, for me is when elite students are recognized and presented with gifts. Fars gives a set of moderate pictures (see). Only one of those images shows a boy with short sleeves, which is a bad thing for a man to wear. When you look at the pictures which ISNA, the students’s news agency, broadcast from the event (see), things are a bit different.

A girl is greeted by Ahmadinejad and the Minister of Higher Education. Actually, there are two pictures like this in ISNA, and we have not seen any of them in the photographs taken by Fars crew. Both girls are wearing Maghnaa (Persian: مقنعه), the ultimateHijab for head and neck in the Islamic Republic eye. However, both girls seem to be completely aware of the last “Islamic” fashion. Frankly, and I have heard this from many Canadians too, if I were to select a sexy style I would select these ones, over less covered western ones. An Iranian friend of mine, who has been in Canada since five, told me “you know what, the Canadian girls are just plainly uncovered. Whereas, the Iranian ones are covered and still have their own curves here and there . They are really sexy.” So, in once sense good for Iranian girls’ genius minds!

This is interesting from another viewpoint, too. Ahmadinejad is pushing hard for forcing “Liberalism” out of the educational system of Iran. Last month he openly apologized the students because of being forced to be educated under influence of Liberal professors. So, he is not a moderate man who does not care if the “Islamic Values” are pushed aside. However, he is so genius that he knows that he can not do anything to the Iranian public. So, he tries to show a nice attitude to the public, as he also extensively did during his campaign. Then, deeply inside the administration, he pushes so hard to get rid of whatever opposes his narration of Islam.

By the way, I really think the ugly black head covering is given to the lady just before she was called on the scene. Imagine her look with a fancy less-covered colored covering!

The long, manteau-like, shirts and jackets are in style in the US now, actually. I personally think they are very professional and sophisticated looking. I see that the President is wearing his trademark tan jacket!

    musicalchef,
Yes, he is! And thanks for the update.

    Amir,
I am sorry. Actually, I am doing my best.

I agree, I think the longer, clothing looks more elegant. I have recently bought some salwar kameez which are lovely and modest tunics and pants which are common in some counties such as Pakistan and India, and many Middle Eastern countries as well. I think they’re very attractive–lovelier than mini skirts and halter tops.

And how ironic that someone should criticize your English, Archer, but not use it himself. Hmm.

    Amy,
So the world is going toward’s modesty, just kidding.

I like short skirts, I wish I could wear them (sigh). Unfortunately necessity (or weight :-( ) makes me wear pants and longer skirts.
Oh well, at least I look fashionable.

    ella and Amy,
Hey! If Iranian girls know how you think about these manteaus they will be really happy! :)

Long coats are fine until it’s 100 degrees outside.

i remember landing in Tehran and hearing the announcement “if you don’t have a hejab, one will be provided for you…” getting off the plane in a sea of black shrouded women with eyes peeking out. It seemed like another planet. my mom gave me a white scarf to wear, and I was always real negligent with it; letting it slip back so that my head could get some air (it was 98 degrees after all). Frankly, I hated it. Wearing a long coat can be elegant and stylish–IF—that is what you CHOOSE to wear. But when it’s forced on you, if feels like prison, or it did to me anyway. I remember thinking that if I had to live in Iran I would chop of my hair and tape down my breasts and pose as a boy–otherwise, I’d surely go mad.

    Lily,
    That’s what I call hospitality.

Do people think that we here in America are looking for more modesty (LOL). Only some ultra-christians dress that plainley. I think it is harse that living with these missunderstandings throughout the world is nearly teraring eachother apart. For all of us to understand this at once, we have to accept that people are different and all can still be considered good brothers and sisters. So just be aware that our “Born-Again” President is only the reverse aspect of any Imam with to much power or some one who claims to be a moderate when he is really just another puppet for the “republic” and not that Niceguy Professor that he lead the world to believe. God Bless the “good” people of Persia that wish to work hand in hand with the west. Now what can you do to help freedom ring in Persia? And don’t forget that we are NO democracy, but an even handed “republic” based on democratic and capitalistic ideals(to define the U.S. purely). We love and appreciate any population willing to accept the way we choose to live our lives, and especially those who stand for the rights that Allah has granted them by their birth on his planet. Does it matter what we call him if he is still “God of ALL Creation”… Allah Akbar p.s. Does Iran teach evolution to it’s students? I Hope Not. (and I doubt it)

    Martin,
God bless God; God’s people bless God’s people; the rest of humanity is more than happy to take care of itself…

Is it so that only black veils are tolerated now? And does the police enforce this accross the board, or only in the main streets of Tehran? I think the Persian style of veil can look fantastic, provided it has some colour.

  16. kamangir |

    Zaratzara,
It is enforced all over the country and about the colorful veils, I agree with you.

The girl in the picture looks very feminine and smart. You don’t have to look sexy to be a woman, not always.

    Dr. Hasanat,
I do not know why I posted this piece. At least 50 people come here, everyday, searching for words really irrelevant to what I am trying to do in my blog.
