Go to your desktop ands make a new text file (test.txt). Then, type “iran win via atoms”, save the file, and close it. Now, open it again. You will see this sentence “畢桳栠摩琠敨愠潴獭” written in the file. An Iranian blogger uses the title “Freedom of Speech, American Version” (see), to announce the new face of western oppression. Another blog warns the readers about the back-doors in Windows and says “this is a new feature added to Windows through automatic update” (see). He also sees this as a hostile action against Iran’s “definite rights”. I am looking for my Chinese friend to come to lab and translate this sentence. Though, my obvious guess is that this is nothing more than another “Jews involvement in 911 attacks has been predicted in Microsoft Word” hoax.

A simple search in Google led to a comment in Yahoo! answers (see),

…actually it’s a bug. notepad tries to understand whether your text is ANSI or Unicode . This effort , fails for texts with this pattern : 4+3+3+5 ( like : bush hid the facts - iran win via atoms - … )

So, I tried “love you big arash”. And you bet! I got the same result. So, Bill Gates does not seem to be involved in the Iran-World atomic crisis.

“kami khodet ro tahvil begir arash.”:) I didn’y get the results. It appears fine.:(

  2. kamangir |

Are you sure? I have checked this on two computers. Actually, a friend of mine is freaking out because he feels jealous about my friendship with Bill Gates. You typed “love you big arash” without “”, right?
p.s. “Just for you arash” works as well. :)

    Thanks for clarification!

  4. Nafiseh |

I tried but it didn’t work! no chineese letters came up!
any ways, nice weblog you’ve got here!

You had nazr to write a comments for every of my posts in one day. I like this kind of nazrs(che zaye shode in nazre englisi:D).ghabool bashe.I called taxi (actually big limo) to pick you up after your big presentation today :D. Do you and your lovely wife give us the honor of companionship for this weekend. we can go for movie.
Another thing, do not listen to “Arash bi to sardame” song, it makes you high:D
Sorry, it was every thing but not a comment. you can delete it.

    Translation and  Clarification:

-”Nazr” in Persian literally means “intention”. To have, or take, a nazr means you do something very regularly to achieve a goal. She means I write comments for every single one of her posts.

-”che zaye shode in nazre englisi”: “Writing nazr in English makes an awkward word”.

    -  “ghabool bashe”: “I hope it is accepted”. Meaning,  I hope your regular commenting on my blog results in what your intention is. She is making fun of my comments in her blog using religious terms.

    -  “Arash bi to sardame”: Arash is a Persian singer. In one of her songs a girl sings “Arash! I am cold withou you”.

It didn’t work, I tried again without “.

    Nafiseh and Mahi,
Come on! I even tried “just for you arash” and it does work (do not type the “”). It is possible that you do not get Chinese characters. Instead, you may get multiple boxes. That’s probably because the font is not installed on your machine.

  8. kamangir |

    Nafiseh,
    Nice to meet you.

  9. kamangir |

Sorry folks! This is a personal message.
    Mahi,
It’s our honor to sit in your precious car. :)

tuye een dunya faght tu ro douram

Translation: “I only have you in the world”. It is from a song by Arash.

  11. majid |

    dear arash
you mentioned befor every combination of 4-3-3-5 letters have the same problem as “iran win via atoms” or “bush hid the facts”
please try this one “bush say the facts”
you see no change or damage in file content
so don’t tell me this is a programming mistake and there is no any idea behind it
be honest with yourself if you are’nt with others

Yes majid, sure they are taking to make a political statement (note the sarcasm).

Here’s an extensive explanation on the strange sightings in notepad.
