Fake Protests

Kamangir | November 5, 2006 | Category Iran

Sometimes people say lies. Sometimes, nations lie. Sometimes, nations lie to other nations. Sometimes, nations fool themselves.

Any Iranian who has gone to school after the revolution knows that Aban 13th (November 4th) is a big fake protest. For of dozens of events, Aban 13th is a day off for all students. Because, it is the students’s day, meaning students are bussed to gathering places to chant against a list of names and hail another list of names. Still, we, Iranians, are doing it over and over and our national television broadcasts it and no one says “Hey! This is a lie! Please!”

This whole thing reminds me of Saddam. A few years ago he was the beloved leader (see). Now, he is sentenced to death and people are singing in the streets, well some of them do.

Any creature has an immune system. This system is responsible for saving that creature from hazardous interferences. Have you ever experienced that you hate a fruit if it has ever caused you a sick stomach? Nations act similarly, you accept to hail Saddam because you now you may be executed if you act otherwise. Then, over the time, you even forget that that is a choice you have made, and can be forgot at any moment, if you wish so.

So, there were huge protests in Iran with students shouting serious death threats against this and that. I love the Iranian flexibility. But, if I was Ahmadinejad I would have this in my mind, the same crowd may change their slogan at any moment.
