Balatarin Goes Higher

Kamangir | November 29, 2006 | Category Iran

Balatarin (means “The Highest”) is the three-month old Persian lounge where Iranians around the world communicate links (also see this). Compared to the other available link-posting websites, including the famous Sobhaneh, Balatarin is attracting more people, because of a very simple rule; it tries to be a democracy. It was interesting to see that in the UCLA incident, Sobhaneh reacted only after the topic was being discussed in Balatarin for over five hours.

The mainstream users of Balatarin are Iranian students or graduates and thus most of the links posted there are regarding recent social/political events which are of interest to the Iranians. Still, you can find links in Balatarin referring to a blog where someone tells emotional tales or even, rarely, porn.

If there is one aspect about Balatarin which makes it hot, it is the fact that it is always evolving. Recently, a few users, including Behrang and I, started a commenting campaign to eliminate irrelevant links from Balatarin, and well, we went a bit too far. That was when the admin got angry and almost closed commenting. Now, Balatarin is back with an energy concept, where you spend your credit in a daily basis. So there would be no comment-storming. Furthermore, a new page is added to address recent events and all related links.

Good news for the Iranian blogsphere. Though, I am not sure if Mehdi, Balatarin’s dad, can keep up with the server costs.

    two more things:
1- I’m sorry for forgetting the copyright of “چاكريم” which was 2006©Kamangir
2- “Imageshack” is not available in Iran (It’s been filtered) So I wish if you could upload your photos somewhere else, such as “freeshare.us” which Nikahang uses it.

Sorry Arash I’m kinda abusing your commenting system, but I just read Sheida’s comment just above mine and couldn’t resist. He’s becoming more and more like “World’s Youngest Reporter.” This is the 4th time I see the exact same comment from him.

    Behran,

Perhaps this site might help unblock the site for viewers in Iran. It, and others like it, have had some effect against the “great firewall of China:”

I tried Ballatarin but it seemed to complicated for me! But you can find interesting link to other websites. The anonymouse org is already filtered!

[...] Since its introduction, a few months ago, Balatarin has attracted more and more attention. This is mainly because it’s an open system (see). This main advantage of Balatarin, over other similar Persian websites (see), is also a source of trouble (see). [...]
