“Ashura: the pageant”

ET writes about Ashura. It is amazing to see the ceremonies through the eyes of an American who lives in Iran.

“America is trying to take Ashura from us,” the small, Ahmadinejad-like prayer leader called out to the crowd.

The crowd ignored him. Someone near me said, “He’s trying to make this night political. It should not be political.”

    America has no idea what Ashura is. We’re not trying to take it away. I’m glad that person saw through it.
