IR Celebrates Its 28th Birthday (or the last?)

Kamangir | February 1, 2007 | Category Iran

The official celebration of the establishment of the Islamic Republic (IR) started in Iran. Twenty eight years ago, today, Khomieini returned from exile and, at least as the official IR historian assert, he established the basis of the new regime in ten days. This is called the “dawn decade”, to resemble a sura in Quran. This resemblance is explicitly referred to in the celebrations.

The IR not only has a sura in Quran, but also they have an exclusive shrine. When Khomeini passed away, his body was buried not very far from Tehran, in the road to Qom. He is more or less the Iranian-Shias’ thirteenth Imam.

Police bikers marched from the airport to Khomeini’s shrine.

As a fixed part of the ceremonies, regime figures visit Khomeini’s shrine.

Ahmadinejad paying respect to Khomeini’s grave stone.

Khameneii meeting with Khomeini. Will he be able to be the source of inspiration for the coming “holy defence”?

Will the history books talk about the 28-year era of Islamic leadership in Iran, ended when the regime failed to control the unrest and outside pressure? I wish the next regime is a pure republic.

You probably mean “dawn decade”, or you may have intentionally used down instead of dawn :)
