[Death in] The Day (Update)
Kamangir | February 11, 2007 | Category Iran
The big day arrived and the Islamic Republic did all their best to pack the streets with people carrying banners, puppets, balloons, and pictures. In fact, everyone showed up, including skaters, street sweepers (some of whom looked like being Afghani citizens), horse back riders, people with inaccessibility, and soccer players .
The banner reads “Nuclear energy is our definite right”. Pay attention to the similar color of the banner and the ball.
People showed, and probably shouted, a more extensive list of “death to”s.

Puppets and masks were everywhere.

“We were dead wrong! Nuclear energy is your definite right.” America, Israel, UK.

And also, banners,
Which were then dumped for recycling.
Clergy showed up too.
And kids.
Flags were burnt, and some people remembered the old Iranian jump-over-fire celebration.
This was new,

Writing a letter to the UN General Secretary on a draft published by the Islamic Republic Post.

Ahmadinejad gave speech at the end.

And everybody went home, happily.
Apparently, someone climbed up the Freedom Sq. monument and then fell down. Update: He was killed (Thanks to Smileme for the link).

Arash jan,
Don’t you dare telling anyone that you have recognised me in the crowds!!! I am already in deep in Camel dung with the Monarchists,Islamists, communists and practically everyone else.:)
interesting. i always feel so sorry for people who have to ‘down’ someone else in order to feel ‘up’ themselves.
And the person who fell lost his life! ( http://isna.ir/Main/NewsView.aspx?ID=News-875188&Lang=P )
isn’t this supposed to be a celebration of the founding of the nation-state? Looks like the current state of Iran was established with a whole lotta hate.
Well, they got to four countries with “down with…”.
I think, Archer, you should start the contest entitled “Which country Iran will put next on the banners “Down With”
پیامت ای امام استقلال ازادی نقش جان ماست
Translation: Your message, O Imam, is imprinted on our souls. (part of the Islamic Republic anthem)
Ablah,
Salam, have I done anything bad to you or have I told any lie here?
Siamak,
You sure were there.
smileme,
Thanks for the link.
Bucket,
Good point!
Ella,
Yeah, we should do that. What is your guess?
