Corrupt Businessman Fled
Kamangir | February 21, 2007 | Category Iran
An Iranian corrupt businessman fled while being transfered.
Shahram Jazayeri (Persian:شهرام جزایری) is a 29 year old businessman whose asset, according to him, is more than 180 million dollars. His trial began in 2002, on charges of corruption. He is also accused of paying huge amounts to parliament members to influence their decisions. For example, he has confessed to have paid about $600,000 to the leader’s brother, who is a reformist. Reportedly, he was arrested after he sent a large check to the leader’s office. According to the news, he has left the country (source).
He mentioned during the trial that he was arrested because “he had no connection to the administration”. Having been active for a long time, his claim must be considered carefully.
The rumor says that he has been connected to some parts of the administration, but not to some others. His successful attempt at these moments is for sure another hard blow on the IR.
