The “Broken Dignity” (Updated)
Kamangir | March 6, 2007 | Category Iran

“Broken Dignity” is the title of the documentary about the capture of eight British Royal Marines on June 2004 (link) (link). The documentary had been banned by the reformist foreign minister of the time from the national television. Thanks to Ahmadinejad’s anti-West attitude, the VCD is now sold on-line for less than 1USD. According to the seller, the footage includes analysis given by Hasan Abbasi, the mysterious head of the Center for Doctrinal Strategic Studies in the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. Reportedly, the footage shows scenes of capturing the eight soldiers and seizing their weapons. Two years ago, the video was shown in the Science and Technology University, where Ahmadinejad did his Ph.D. and was also a faculty member (link). The spectators were banned to bring any camera to the theater.
The documentary is distributed by a software company whose other products include interactive CDs related to the “holy defense” and other IR-propaganda subjects. The timing of the release of the documentary is also very critical.

Scenes from the documentary.
Update: This is very likely the documentary (open with IE) (thanks to Alphabet City for the link).

Just a quick question. Did “I” forget the Farsi language? or it has been growing so fast all these years that I don’t understand some of the words. Does ” هیمنه ” mean Dignity?
Thanks
Mashdihassan,
I guess so. Am I wrong?
hi-maneh, pronounced in Arabic means taking over or control. I have never seen it in persian…most of the time persian Usage of Arabic words doesn’t mean the same thing in Arabic.
serendip,
I looked for it a Persian-English dictionary (link).
Serendip and Mashdihassan,
Thanks for your attention. :)
1-I have heard this word many times befor. I think there is nothing about language growth.
2-I can’t find a better word to use.
3-”هیمنه” is related to a kind of greatness or respect which usually contains some kind of fear and being unreachable, but dignity doesn’t have exactly that sense!
4-In Arabic it may have another meaning.
Shimbalkhaan,
I agree with you. “Dignity” was only the best word I could come up with. Any way, thanks. :)
Thank you kamangir. Great link.
Serendip,
Chakerim. :)
Kamangir: Same here.
I think Majesty is much better for هیمنه
this is what free dictionary says about majesty:
a. The greatness and dignity of a sovereign.
b. Stately splendor; magnificence, as of style or character
Breaking someone dignity (negative moral connotation) is much different than breaking someone Majesty (power confrontation)!!!
Thanks to every one for paying so much attention to my question. I was disappointed that if I return back to Iran, the language is so much changed.
I also found “hubris” that is very closed to the meaning. So may be it is “Broken Hubris”
