“Why Should Iranians Withstand?”

Kamangir | March 6, 2007 | Category Iran

Using the title “why should Iranians withstand”, Baztab asks,

It appears that the struggle between Iran and the US is not on the existence of the Islamic Republic. Their problem is with the development of Iran [in gaining access to nuclear technology]. Then, the question is, is development only achieved if Iran conquers the nuclear technology? Obviously, the answer is negative.

Batzab then follows with a list of previous face-offs between the US and Iran and states what the author finds as the “reason behind the support of the Iranians” in each case. The article continues, “in the last 28 years, the main reason for Iran’s victory, and the defeat of the enemy, has been the people and their presence in the scene.” Baztab concludes “people have never took part in anything without knowing the reason behind the events. Now, they need to know what is on stake and what achievement the country and the regime seek in the current struggle.”

I read this article as a fraction of the IR alarming that Iranians may seriously take a neutral position and leave the IR in the war with the US.

Absolute mirepresentation of the truth. They are trying to reframe the issues and exploit and capitalize on the Nationalistic sentiments of Iranians. No one wants to stop Iran from having nuclear technology…nuclear technology has advanced since the Russians and Pakistani achieved it by bounds and leaps and the type of nuclear tech. Iran is trying to achieve is basically obselete in he scientific circle…However, the world community is not buying their “peaceful nuclear technology” slogan…everyone knows where they’re heading…We don’t worry that France or Great Britain has nuclear weapons. We tolerate India’s and Israel’s arsenals largely because we have some faith that their semi-democratic governments will not use them…and they are not having conferences on “A world without America and Israel”, they don’t capture hostage and kill our marines and they certainly don’t finance militias in Iraq and Hizballah. They are nation not a “CAUSE” to defeat the So-called “US Imperialism”. It’s not Iran’s job to defeat any system of government be it capitalism or socialism because they think their way is the rightous way to establish the ummah or enter jerusalem via Karbala or Wiping Israel off the map and so on…. Were Iran ruled by even an imperfect democratic government who had not self-appointed itself to remove countries and world systems they don’t agree with, we would be much less concerned about its weaponry. It might dismantle its program voluntarily, as did Ukraine and Libya and now NK. But even if it didn’t, a liberal and democratic Iran would be less paranoid about its security and therefore less reliant on nuclear weapons to defend itself. Ahmadinejad is preparing the way for the Apocalypse and he thinks war and chaos is needed to expedite the coming of Mahdi.

    Serendip,

Many historians believe that one important reason for fall of Shah was his uncontrollable growth of power. This includes his development in economy, military, and of course his long term plans for nuclear tech. Why does the IR regime enjoy so much support from European countries? and why should Iran face an immediate war after the revolution? was it not because that Iran was going too fast? I guess everyone was trying to keep Iran down by supporting the war, supporting the mullah regime, and of course by all the humiliations about Iranian people in other countries.

I remember two years back, the defense minister of Israel in that time (or someone as important as him) said that Iran was too large and that it should be broken down.

The most important thing in the modern world is balance of power. If something breaks this rule, all other countries will do something about it. Even Pakistan is there because of a balance. Do you really believe that Pakistan has a nice and democratic government? don’t you see that they are killing Indians in Bombay and other places every time? Does Pakistan’s government do anything about terrorism in Kashmir? why should everyone try to stop North Korea but not Pakistan?

That’s strange. I have read in couple of books that there were several reasons for Shah fall. Development in agriculture was opposed by mullahs who lost their (economic)power in villages, in industrial development shah concentrated on large projects which did nothing to improve economic situation particularly when price of oil went down, and he lost support of majority of people by relying on SAVAK to keep everybody in line and at the same time talking about democracy. As for Iran facing an immediate war after the revolution that was partially due to the rhetoric of IRI. How would you feel if someone’s government would talk about need for revolutionary changes in your own country, would say that your government is not legal/islamic and that people should with the help of this country “advisors” change the map of ME. That was the talk of IRI at the time of Khomeini…islamic revolution in the ME supported by IRI.

I guess everyone was trying to keep Iran down by supporting the war, supporting the mullah regime, and of course by all the humiliations about Iranian people in other countries.
Don’t you think it is somewhat contradictory? If some countries were supporting war which aim was to remove mullah regime then how could they support mullahs?
Humiliation of Iranian people in other countries…….you are joking, aren’t you? You mean iranians could not hold banners in Mecca with demand for violent change in KSA government? Were not allowed to demonstrate in USA against government in USA? They were sorry for breaking international laws in storming and keeping hostages US embassy compound? Humiliation, my foot!

As for Shah nuclear development, shah did that with the help of US and other western countries, IRI could have done the same, but IRI preferred instead to (loudly)claim that they would like to destroy/change regime in a couple of other countries.

Why do you say no one stops Pakistan? India does, with a little help from some friends.
Or do you think IRI would be a better, new, friend for India with its islamic views for the future of Afghanistan and its asia neighbours?

I will just tell you some facts, it’s up to you that how you want to get a conclusion out of it:

1- After the revolution, Iran had the biggest arsenal in the region with all the cutting edge military systems. How could the west destroy this storage? they should be consumed!

2- Do you know which business has the highest value of Return on Investment? weapons trade!

3- Do you know how the developed countries renew their military machines? by selling their old arsenal to other countries. (Naturally, this only includes the weapons that cannot be used against themselves.)

4- Do you know which countries have the money to buy useless weapons? the oil countries.

5- Do you know which countries have the biggest reserve of oil in the world? definitely Iran and Iraq are in the list of top 5.

6- Did you know that Iraq-Iran war was the most unique war in the 20th century? why? because it lasted for more than 8 years and none of the two countries could go beyond 100km from the other country’s border! instead it was known as the most destroying war in the modern world. No need to mention that how much destruction these two countries made.

7- Do you know who was the winner of this war? Iran? of course not! Iraq? you must be kidding! of course oil companies and the weapon sellers.

8- Do you know who was the second level winner of the war?
