Baztab: Asgari Was Kidnapped
By Kamangir • Mar 10th, 2007 • Category: IranBaztab claims that the wife and the children of Ali Reza Asgari, the Iranian General who is missing, are in Iran. Despite previous news that said he and his family are in an unknown place, outside Iran, and that he has surrendered himself to the US, and is cooperating with them, Baztab claims that his family are desperately looking for him. Baztab also claims that the residence of the “retired” general does not show any sign of the will for “immigration”. Baztab concludes that he is most likely to be kidnapped by the Mossad or the CIA.

I thought the Iranians were bragging about how easy it was for Americans to be kidnapped… people in Iran are being kidnapped, defecting and assainated one after another lately.. i hope nothing happens to that one guy who said that.
So do you think he was kidnapped?
I read somewhere that his wife and family were already out of the country waiting for him in Turkey.
Regardless, I think the Iranians are “negotiating” while they frantically reshuffle the deck of their Hezbollah cells, and their many plants in the Mehdi Army and the Badr Brigades.
I would think that the Americans would have acted on his information regarding Iran’s plants in Iraqi forces. It could only improve the US’s bargaining position, with the added benefit of giving Ahmadinejad’s domestic opponents (Rafsanjani) a lot of extra grist for impeachment.
If we don’t see a mass of arrests in the very near future, or American attacks on the Mehdi/Badr forces in the near future, I will begin to doubt the value of Askari’s information. The US has nothing to lose by leveraging it to the hilt…
yahoo had this information 2 days ago
According to the London-based newspaper Asharq al-Awsat on Wednesday, Asgari had been spirited out to a northern European country where he was being debriefed by military experts.
The reports have not received independent confirmation.
Whatever, he disappeared and probably is debriefed now, either voluntarily or involuntarily. If he disappeared voluntarily (aka defected) I hope his family got out of Iran.
As for Baztab article, it may be true or they may try to “limit the damage”. I think there is no point in speculating just yet what really happened because everybody will try to tell different story.
A member of the Norwegian intelligence services said that Iranian agents had gone to Norway in order to find the general Ali Reza Azghari, who seems to have deserted to the West. (Guysen.Israël.News)
According to the Washington Post, citing highly placed sources, the Iranian general Ali Reza Azghari deserted Iran of his own free will for the West, aided by Israel, and was not kidnapped. His desertion was organized by the Mossad and he is being questioned now by Western intelligence services
I wonder what that Iranian official who claimed how it easy it is to kidnap Americans is thinking. Iran has been having trouble keeping its people from dying or defecting.
oh i didn’t notice my comment number 1 existed, I thought the web ate it. I didnt’ mean to duplicate the message.
There are some news about Asgari. He was a “mole” from 2003,and now he is in Germany in a NATO base.

Have just seen the news from Sunday Times, UK
“AN Iranian general who defected to the West last month had been spying on Iran since 2003 when he was recruited on an overseas business trip, according to Iranian sources.
This weekend Brigadier General Ali Reza Asgari, 63, the former deputy defence minister, is understood to be undergoing debriefing at a Nato base in Germany after he escaped from Iran, followed by his family.
A daring getaway via Damascus was organised by western intelligence agencies after it became clear that his cover was about to be blown. Iran’s notorious secret service, the Vavak, is believed to have suspected that he was a high-level mole.”
