“Death to UK”
1- I am not a fan of football but I know that much that when the two top teams, Esteghlal and Perspolis, play together, it is the big event. This time, the Islamic Republic tried to borrow some of that passion for its political agenda. So, as ISNA reports,
The spectators shouted “Death to UK” before the match. A black banner was attached to the entrance of the stadium showing the text “Death to UK”.
2- In another news, the Friday Prayers’ Imam of Tabriz, the capital city of East Azerbaijan Province, asked for the British sailors to be tried.
3- The national television talked to the people in the streets about the arrest of the sailors. This is what they found someone to say “obviously, we have something that they do not. That is oil, nuclear energy, and most importantly unity…They want to steal all of these from Iran.” The reporter then asks “do you think they would succeed?” “A hundred percent sure no.”
And the IR wonders why we in the West question the peacefulness of their nuclear program when the Mullahs can’t even let a soccer game happen without wishing some country or other death.

I’d say this kind of rhetoric was popular say…8-900 hundred years ago? Eh, it’s not broke, don’t fix it! :P

Who won the match…Persepolis?
Comment by Matthew — March 31, 2007 @ 8:29 pm
Matthew,
I think it ended 1-1.

Archer
I would have kept fingers crossed for Persepolis, I like its name.
BTW Both of these clubs are from Tehran, so what about their fans, how do they choose who to cheer up for. Is it just “my friends (or my parents) keep fingers crossed for Esteghal so I would do too, or is backing one club over the other connected with some areas of Tehran?

Kamangir, you are truly turning into a poet. I am writing a story based on the title of this post.
Keep up the good work.
