Khameneii: No Negotiation with the US

“No negotiation with the states, even regarding Iraq”

The Supreme Leader talked today for a group of clerics in the holy city of Mashhad. According to Kayhan he said,

Negotiation with the states is void, according to the logic. What the administration mentioned about negotiation was that they are not doing their job as occupiers and not only have obstructed the path to the establishment of security in Iraq, but also they conspire to overthrow the democratically chosen government of Iraq. We are not careless about the situation in Iraq. Thus, the administration wants to seat with the Americans and remind them of their responsibilities…This is the talk which was scheduled to happen a year ago but they acted strangely. This time, they have sent a written request. The policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in doing no negotiation or communication with the states is there while they follow their colonial strategies. Those who think the Islamic Republic will quit its strong and logical policy to not negotiate with the state are wrong. What negotiation? Negotiation with a oppressive regime? Especially with the current administration whose powerful men and women are a shame for the history [not the exact translation]. [Comparing Bush to Hitler, he added] They are now angry that there exists an independent country.

p.s. Reuters carries parts of his speech.

  1. wow. I don’t even know where to start. Just, wow.

Archer, you have a knack for posting stuff that makes my jaw hit the floor. Is that what the IR is really about? I don’t know if I should laugh at it or if I worried about the craziness.

  2. Haha Islamic Republic telling America that they are the opressive regime, that’s a good one.

  3. There are talks scheduled for may 28th, so somehow this statement and that reality will have to be reconciled (or not).

  4. Yeah, it’s happening. I wonder if they say it won’t happen and call the U.S. an oppressive regime so that whatever understanding comes out of this meeting, the IRI can claim coercion and renege on any agreements as nonbinding.

But I’m not a crazy person and could not begin to know their minds.

  6. I am thinking of what Keyhan is going to say after May 28. I think there is a big debate among IR politicians, not on negotiating with US but on who is going to do that. I think Kayhan is not happy with who is going to negotiate and they are trying to stop it by any means.

  7. Very presentable website by someone who either knows HTML and the Internet well or has friends who do. Far more presentable than my AntiMullah blog. But I know nothing about how to to have all the feed links you do nor howto broadcast them.

I have not had a long look at the contents you post so feel you might be a pro-mullah site while I am definitely against them.

  10. From Alalam.ir.com: TEHRAN, May 17–Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has ruled out any rapprochement between Iran and the US.Addressing a group of Islamic scholars in the northeastern city of Mashhad, the leader also rebuked “certain domestic circles” who are celebrating over the idea of negotiations with Washington.

The leader gave his backing to planned talks with the US on Iraq, but said the negotiations are aimed at reminding Washington of its failed duties in the war-torn country.”Given that America, as an occupying government, does not fulfill its responsibilities regarding the establishment of security in Iraq…the foreign ministry decided upon the Iraqi government’s request to remind the Americans of their responsibilities in a face-to-face dialogue”.Ayatollah Khamenei said Washington had asked for negotiations in writing, lashing out at US officials over saying that the talks would be limited to the Iraq issue.”

The Americans are saying there will be no negotiation beyond the Iraq issue but we are telling them that ‘even the Iraq issue has nothing to do with you’ and the dialogue is only about the occupiers’ responsibilities regarding the security of Iraq.”Ayatollah Khamenei said the US has tied the hands of the Iraqi government in its bid to restore security in Iraq and is trying to topple the government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki while supporting terrorist groups.

The leader also castigated some voices inside Iran who have been gloating over the idea of talks between Tehran and Washington.”Those, who think the Islamic Republic of Iran will change its firm, logical and totally defensible policy of rejecting negotiations with America, are blatantly mistaken.”How can one have dialogue with an arrogant, bullying, expansionist and imperial American government, especially with its current brazen, ill-mannered and boastful statesmen?”Ayatollah Khamenei said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran’s policy of not negotiating with America will remain unchanged as long as this arrogant government’s policies do not change.”

A key lawmaker also poured cold water on the idea of forming an Iranian-US friendship committee in parliament to hold contacts with the US Congress. The rebuttal came only a day after some deputies were said to have been gathering signatures to find a way to bridge nearly three decades of estrangement between the US and Iran.

But MP Kazem Jalali, rapporteur of parliament’s national security and foreign policy commission, put the kibosh on the idea, saying “this is only a rumor which certain individuals have floated with special objectives”.”Current talks between Iran and America are only in the framework of the Iraq problems and any haste in remarks and positions short of considering the dignity of the Iranian nation will not be in line with national interests,” the MP said.Jalali said the reason behind the Bush government’s push for negotiations with Iran was the failure of the US policies in the Middle East.

The lawmaker touched on the Baker-Hamilton report which advised the Bush government to hold direct talks with Iran over resolving the Iraqi crisis. “Under the current situations, the Americans need to talk to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Hence, it is necessary to have a careful strategy in order to achieve results which guarantee Iran’s national interests.”Moreover, showing any sort of captivity with resuming ties with America and haste can prove contradictory to national interests,” Jalali added.

  15. Hello Arash,

First, thank you for posting all the links to my blogs. I discovered this through sitemeter which logs visitors and one was via your site, so I went to see what it was about. And lo and behold you had gone the full nine yards. (I guess the html code did not transfer. On my site it’s the pink “eye” not hte blinkng one).

There are so many students in Canada, who are Mullah shills and working surreptitiously on their behalf that I tend to be wary of Candians, though you have people like Serendip and Garduneh Mehr who post to you, who are “good guys/girls.

Old habits die hard so either I take you at face value, which I intend to do, or you are a very smart shill :-)) whose cover was improved by posting AntiMullah.

Unlike one chap in Canada, who has a background and history of working with the Mullahs but has put all the labels of what Mullahs hate on his site, such as supporting Zionism, neocons, etc., etc., as his cover.

Methinks, as Shakespeare said, “he doth protest too much” and has gone way over the line in establishing his cover. Like a sea crab attaching bits and pieces of stuff on top of its shell to try not to look like a crab.

Then, as an avowed penniless student he travels all over to other countries. Funded by whom?

Anyway, Arash, thanks again and I wish you every success in your studies and have put your site on my list of “to visit regularly”.

You might want to see my latest articles and graphics on the home page http://www.antimullah.com or if you or your vvisitors are interested my daily “anti-terror news on its own page.

cheers, and you have my Email should you wish to contact me.
