In Iran, politics always influences other matters, such as movies. However, sometimes, their intersection becomes rather ironic. Recently, a movie titled “Ali, the Santour [an Iranian musical instrument similar to Dulcimer] Player” was banned from the theaters. Many think the movie is banned because there are rumors that the Supreme Leader, whose first name is Ali, used to play an almost similar instrument. Alongside other similarities, Ali in the movie becomes drug addict and it is a widespread rumor that the Supreme Leader is an addict. Many, including Imayan, disagree with these rumors and believe that he only used to smoke pipe, a habit he has since quited. Fact or rumor, the movie’s trailer is worth watching, even just for the music.
