State Theorizes Suicide Missions

Kamangir | August 8, 2007 | Category Human Rights, Iran, Islam, Islamic Republic

The Journal of Islamic Governance is published by the Council of Experts, the body which assigns and monitor the Supreme Leader. In its last issue, Islamic Governance carried a very long article titled “The Islamic Bases of Suicide Missions [not exact translation]“. In the article, the author reviews the related Islamic literature, for both Shias and Sunnis, and concludes “According to the available evidence, we can definitely talk about the legitimacy of suicide missions and even go further and point out its importance and value”. The article is packed with sentences about the “importance” of suicide missions, such as “No doubt, one of the reasons for the fast progress of Islam in reaching its goals and … defeating strong castles in different regions in less than half a century [the early days of Islam] is the martyr-seeking attitude in it”. The article concludes with answering the question “What if civilians are killed in a suicide mission?” by referring to a Hadith [sentences of the holy figures of Islam] which says “Priests who have an opinion and are effective in the war…must be killed”.

Blargh? I mean, self-sacrifice in certain cases is one thing, but a clear and set policy of suicide? Of kamikaze? Of certain death, *sought* death? This is Nihilism, and reducing people to weapons.

A policy of killing anyone if he can influence the politics in his country? This is murder. The reference to priests only makes sense if they govern the country.

Well, if they had a big mass suicide, like Jonestown, we might get some peace. Why do the leaders advocating this garbage not lead by example and blow themselves up?

That is one document that I would love to see the entire translation. Amazng what religious psychopaths can do do justify homicidal-sucidal murder.

This is amazing…Many Sunnis and Islamic scholars will definitely disagree…

Can you imagine if fundemantalist Christians/jews/Budahhists had something like this as their policy???

If you want to know why a nuclear-armed Khomeinist regime scares the living hell out of everyone in the region, you have only to read craziness like this.

How far does the concept of “suicide mission” go?

A “suicide mission” that kills one civilian is okay? Really? What about a suicide mission involving 10 Iranians that kills 10 “enemy civilians?” What about 100? 100000? 100000000? What about a nuclear “suicide mission” (a.k.a. nuclear war) that wipes out a whole country (the “enemy”) and forces millions of Iranians to become involuntary martyrs in the nuclear exchange?

The USA and the USSR never started a nuclear war. They became convinced that “Mutual Assured Destruction” (mutual suicide) would result and that this was the worst horror anyone could ever contemplate. They pulled back from the brink.

But this Iranian regime believes that suicide and the murder of civilians are not only okay, but in fact necessary.

And the world is willing to **** around until these psychopaths have nuclear weapons?

How many Iranians and Israelis and others will these guys murder in the name of their zeal to commit suicide?

I am not only scared of IRI nuclear weapons but also of KSA and others arming themselves up.
As for IRI, I have read that some people want to change the program of IRI schools to add more religion and less “western science”. As if Iranian students did not have enough religion in schools, now.
I think Ahmadinejad & Co., want to bring up new generation as unthinking soldiers and/or fanatics. If that proposal will come through it will be disaster for Iran.

Serendip, sadly Sunni Islam is effectively in a worse situation, with the sheer number of “martyrdom-seekers” who are Sunni. It’s very much a proprietary field of Sunnis for the moment, chiefly due to Wahabbi influences.

But even the Grand Mufti of Egypt, who spoke vehemently against suicide bombing, had an exception. He had no problem when the targets were Israeli. This breach made Sunni suicide bombing more legitimate de-facto. Just look at Iraq…

By “legitimate” I mean “legitimate in the eyes of Sunni Muslims”.
