Shameless Thieves in a Mosque
Kamangir | August 9, 2007 | Category Humour, Iran, Islam

Etekaf is an Islamic ritual in which the believers stay in mosques for a known number of days and devote all their time to practicing the religion. This picture is taken in such an event. The banner on the wall reads “Take care of your belongings [against thieves].”
Ahmadinejad goes Scientific
Kamangir | August 9, 2007 | Category Humour, Iran, Islamic Republic

Do you remember the time Ayatollah’s went scientific? Ahmadinejad paid a visit to the same cloning institute and managed to look into a microscope. He, who apparently holds a Ph.D., and that’s enough for me to hate my studies, had mentioned earlier, “The earth will not shake where all people are believers and that place will not collapse.“
Preparation for Urban Conflicts
Kamangir | August 9, 2007 | Category Iran, Islamic Republic
The “Lady Basij Fighters”, mentioned before, are actually a part of a bigger military drill aimed at preparing Basij members for urban conflicts. One side of the conflict, obviously, is Basij, who the other part is, you are more than welcome to speculate upon. More pictures here and here. Also see The Picture which was Deleted.
“On the Lies We hear: Iranian Supercomputer”
Kamangir | August 9, 2007 | Category Humour, Iran, Islamic Republic
The Islamic Republic recently claimed [Persian] to have built the fastest supercomputer in the Middle East, with 860 Gfps of computational power. The Iranian blogger Jadi is not convinced that this is that much of an achievement [Persian],
On the Lies We hear: Iranian Supercomputer
I hope you have read the book 1984. There, a Fascist government strives on bragging about the threat of the enemy and on lying to its people that “we are progressing”. The people, however, when they look at their lives, realize that they are getting poorer and poorer…
Yesterday, I read the news about the Iranian supercomputer. The description was that they have managed to put 216 processors in parallel and “to join the few countries which have the technology of supercomputers”. It is silly and humorous that we think we are going forward, while we are getting poorer and more left alone.
A friend was saying that Iran, which has not ever manufactured an 8-bit microprocessor, is now talking about supercomputers. The fact is, if you have a number of computers which run on Linux, you can use a free software, available on the Internet for free, to make them work in parallel, or as the technical term goes, create a cluster. It is good to have a cluster, but I hate lying and pretending to have contributed anything to this technology.
They could have mentioned this news as “Iran managed to cluster this many number of processors and generate that amount of processing power which is unique in the Middle East”, and I even doubt about that.
It is disgusting when they lie and pretend to be the big guy.
Which one is Worse: Kissing in Public or Public Execution
Kamangir | August 9, 2007 | Category Human Rights, Iran, Islamic Republic
This is the English translation of a post from the Persian blog Flick [Persian], and actually the first post on this newly-born blog.
Which one is Worse: Kissing in Public or Public Execution?
Why is it that the broadcast of violent pictures of killing a person is not bad but the scene of two people hugging or kissing because of love is bad and cannot be shown? Which one is better to learn, kissing or murder and violence? Why do we watch action scenes on TV but kissing and hugging, and I mean those of lovers, are bad [and have to be censored]? Do we take our kids to a place where they can learn love, as we take them to public executions?…
“Dollar per Wife Table”
Kamangir | August 9, 2007 | Category Humour, Iran, Islam, Islamic Republic
A new pro-polygamy bill has just been sent to the parliament by the cabinet. The bill eliminates the necessity of the wife’s permission for the husband getting married again. Labyrinth mocks the aspect of the bill which replaces the wife’s permission with only economic power [Persian].
As Ahmadinejad’s government has set the only condition for re-marriage to affording it, based on the court’s decision, the Judiciary has just issued a table. Men should know that if the number of their wives does not comply with this table, they will have to divorce the excessive wives and pay a fine.
Monthly Income Number of Wives More than $5,000 Four Permanent, Infinite Temporary Between $2,000 and $5,000 Four Permanent, Two Hundred Temporary Between $1,000 and $2,000 Two Permanent, Fifty Temporary Between $500 and $1,000 One Permanent, Five Temporary Less than $500 Do it Yourself

Breaking News! Ahmadinejad on a Canon Ad!
Kamangir | August 9, 2007 | Category Humour, Iran, Islamic Republic

This can be an ad for Canon, “So easy, even Ahmadinejad can do it!”. Actually, it is not. Ahmadinejad paid a visit to the Islamic Republic News Agency, IRNA. To have more fun with IRNA, see how IRNA used the picture of an American airplane team as an Iranian one in here.

Female members of Basij, the fundamentalist paramilitary group, practiced shooting with different weapons. More pictures here.
