The treatment of the “martyrdom”, and the corpses still being found in the places which used to be the front line of the war with the “infidel Baathi Iraqis”, is a key issue in the ideology of the Islamic Republic (see Corpse Parade). Once every while, the national television announces the funeral of anonymous soldiers found on the front. Many of these corpses, or rather pieces of stone, end up being buried in public places, “to cause awareness”. One of the latest ones was the “Martyrdom Cave”, established in the northern part of Tehran, at the heart of the wealthiest parts of the capital city (see Ayatollah Left the Cave). To see more pictures of the cave and the burial ceremony see the photoblog.

Even an ultra-religious event does not justify Basij members of opposite sex holding hands. That does not mean they will not invent a method to pull the girls uphill without any sinful touch.

  1. Hey! The price that those people paid to become what you describe as “pieces of stone” was for you to save your f****n ass, leave the country, and sit in a position of a “foreigner” to look back at the land to which you certainly do NOT belong. If there is any bit of sympathy with your way of looking at that country, there IS definitely a feeling of disgust of a person who has turned back on a long history of having the greatest civilization on the face of the earth and focused his short-sighted look at a very tiny bit of a grand picture.

Kamangir: Please forgive me if I have offended you. Many of those who fought in the war were innocent brave men and women who did it for their country. All of us owe them our way of life. That, however, does not justify the actions of those who accomplish their own political goals using the remaining bones and corpses.

  2. Yeah… right! What I can see here is that those “bones and corpses” are subject to the pursuit of YOUR political goals as much as theirs! Living in Canada should have taught you by now that freedom of YOUR speech should not limit freedom of others.

Kamangir: I do not have any political goal. My only “goal” is freedom for each and every Iranian. :)
