Definitely Too Sexy for Shia News
By Kamangir • Aug 21st, 2007 • Category: Human Rights, Humour, Iran, Islam, Islamic Republic
This image is not blurred because the photographer has been lousy. This image is blurred to protect Sharia. Asking “Is this not advocating immodesty”, Shia News writes [Persian], “Is it really appropriate to have sportswomen’s photographs published in the media?” Last week, the original images had been carried here, in a post titled Too Sexy for Fars News, after they were deleted from Fars News outlet. The other images of that group can be found in the photoblog.
More amazing than the blurred images are some of the comments, the visitors of the conservative site Shia News have left there.
…Whoever thinks these pictures are not arousing does not have any spirituality in his character…
…We must harshly punish the man who has gone to a women-only stadium to take these pictures…
…This is American Islam…
…The end of time [Armageddon] is coming…
…These are the signs of Imam Mahdi’s return…
…Who is gonna look at these ugly women anyways?…

I wouldn’t define them as sexy. Does that mean I don’t grasp what sexy is? I’m puzzled. Why is it so horrible for men to lust after women that women have cover up, but women are obviously free to lust after men because men do not have cover up. Why is that?
A man is responsible for his own thoughts and feelings.
Being an adult means not always acting on your feelings.
A man cannot succeed until he has self-discipline.
Since there is no requirement for a man to completely cover himself, does that mean that the female mind is more disciplined and less vulnerable to sin?
If we are supposed to believe it when they say jihad is really an inner struggle, why don’t Muslim men make a little effort of self-control so that the women around them don’t have to spend their lives in small tents? Try a little jiggle jihad maybe.
Man, that chick can jump!
These pictures are about as sexy as I am when I am standing by the sink washing dishes. (not at all!) I do not know what is wrong with you Muslim men but you need to wash out your brains with bleach - a woman is not sexy when she is standing by a playing field with a pensive look on her face, heavy clothes covering just about everything. Women don’t think about YOU 24 hours of every day. Sometimes we just do things to please ourselves. Its NOT all about you, spoiled, immature boy-children! I say all this as a 56 year old woman who has been faithfully married for 32 years. Its not clothes that make a woman faithful or desirable, its a heart full of love and a good, kind man who loves back.
The thing that struck me most the instant I saw the picture was what cntrlfrk said in post #5…man can she jump! She’d probably be able to slam dunk in the WNBA where most American women have no chance.
In Iran, my friends and I speculated that one day all Muslim men will be required to wear glasses that virtually add complete cover to all women so that women could walk around free. That seems fair, doesn’t it?
It is true that in Iran the dominant idea is that women do have more disciplined minds than men who are viewed as more sentimental and emotional.
Nobody jumps like that…look closely. The girl on the right is kneeling on the ground which she is not touching therefore a picture of her kneeling has been photoshopped to get rid of her background and then overlayed to the picture of the three women on the left. Someone from hot air with more experience please evaluate and concur or rebut.
Tori,
What a fanastic idea. Women just carry a bluetooth transmitter in a necklace, and Muslim men have to wear visors that black out that area, and the rest of us can enjoy the sight of beautiful women.
I’m too sexy for sharia,
Too sexy for sharia,
Too sexy by far …
So I guess the only acceptable photo is a polar bear in a snow storm?
post #7…She’d probably be able to slam dunk in the WNBA where most American women have no chance.
Look at the photo again. Does anyone think she might be a he?
Blurka!
I think claiming it is to protect Sharia is nonsense. The readers of a site called “Shia News” are most probably conservative Shia Muslims, so one could, or should, be able to understand why the women might have been covered up in order to protect our modesty.
the pictures are OK but they are not apporoprate for publish they are far from norms and norms decide legimity of things accompony with islamic rules you may not add my opinion but i did my humanistic duty
