Haleh Esfandiari’s daughter stated “my mother is not under house arrest, she is even allowed to leave the country”. Haleh Esfandiari left the infamous Evin Prison on a $400,000 bail [Persian].
If she looks pale to you, try reading these,

Update: The national television interviewed her right after she was released. She said “If I needed to buy something, they would ask me for the list”.

I wonder, when she is back in the U.S, will she still continue pushing the American government to have dialogue with Mullahs’ regime? It will be interesting to read her comments when she is back in the US
All your base are belong to us.
I think the message the Islamic Republic is trying to send here is very clear, Iranian expatriate women and men with western attitudes and styles will not be tolerated in Iranian society today. Iran today is definitely one of the most pious of the Muslim nations.
Of course, which really must suck for Iranians who don’t care about religion, which is perfectly fine of course..
..perfectly fine unless you’re a woman who wants to keep your head uncovered because you don’t care about religion.
It’s even less perfectly fine if you’re a religious person who isn’t Muslim–God forbid you’re a Jew, Baha’i or Zoroastrian.
Which is a sad thing, because a government claiming so much to be Islamic should at the very least follow Islamic adab and have a mutual respect among the religions.
Actually, I read recently in the BBC that there are synagogues “dotted all over Iran”, and that Khomeini distinguished between israelies/zionists, and Jewish people in Iran, who have a real authentic Iranian identity, while still being Jewish.
Whether or not that’s true, Khomeini is dead and sentiments have changed.
