The Cockroach-Cartoon: Logic kicks in
By Kamangir • Sep 7th, 2007 • Category: Humour, Iran, Islamic RepublicFollowing the cartoon which “depicted Iran as a sewer and the Iranians as cockroaches”, the first round was inspired by anger and sense of humiliation. The second round, however, is one of more deliberation. I should say, compared to similar cases in the past, including what happened over the movie The 300, the reaction has been fantastic; the first shock has been dealt with more reasonably and thoughtfulness has kicked in much faster.
The Persian blog Poor Iran was among the first to call for logic. “Have some sense of humor!”, the blogger wrote [Persian]. Then, the prominent Iranian cartoonist Nikahang Kowsar, whose cartoons I have frequently posted here, came in. He has started communicating with the cartoonist and the magazine and seeks a reasonable and honorable solution to what he finds “a massive exaggeration” [Persian].

p.s. Iranian Truth still finds the cartoon as “dehumanization” and “a step toward genocide and other human rights abuses”.
