I’m familiar with the Colorado Springs Air Force Academy that article also mentioned, and it had little to do with army policies and everything to do with the Academy being located near a very Evangelist town.
I trust that the US army will handle this new case as it should.
“point to a growing willingness inside the military to support a particular brand of Christianity and to permit improper evangelizing in the ranks.”
The problem with extremists, be they Christian or Islamic is that they all seek to force their lifestyle and beliefs on others.
All forms of religious extremism represent a danger to civilized free societies.
I agree that religious proselytizing should have no place in the US army, any proselytizing of any religion. I also believe that this kind of organisation does, mostly, a necessary work. But I also think that some of the statements of MRFF sound a bit like anty-religious propaganda itself, something I would call a “fighting atheism”. So I would prefer not jump to conclusion regarding all of MRFF activities.
From MRFF press release:
Today, we are boldly stabbing back against the evil heart of unconstitutional darkness, a contagion of fundamentalist religious supremacy and triumphalism noxiously dominating the command and control of the technologically most lethal organization ever created by humankind: our honorable and noble United States armed forces.”
don’t any of you think that the above is a little, well, religious? ;-)
Fundamentalist, Ella. They sound like fundamentalists embarking on a Crusade or something.
I don’t think it is possible for soldiers to adopt any religion.
And why is that, MiM?
