The Sharia Hypocrisy during Putin’s Visit to Tehran

Filed under: Iran, Islam, Islamic Republic, Russia — Kamangir @ 2:00 pm

You might remember that the former reformist president Khatami was under harsh criticism by the conservatives for having shaken hands with an uncovered lady in Italy and then sitting close to her (in which occasion we also talked about the proper hand-kissing method utilized on the Supreme Leader). At the time, many clerics asked for him to be tried and prohibited from wearing the clergy cloths, a very harsh punishment for a clergyman. That apparently is not how the conservatives react to all anti-Sharia actions.

If what happened to Khatami was in Italy, a country not under the jurisdiction of the Islamic Republic, during Putin’s recent trip to Iran the same conservatives showed that they can close their eyes on similar “sin”s committed “on the land of Islam”. This picture is taken in Mehrabad Airport, Tehran, and is published by the state-run media. The lady in short skirt is Putin’s flight attendant and you should know that as soon as any flight enters the Iranian air, all female passengers have to cover up. This lady, however, gets away with being unveiled and also shaking hands with a man. Well, that specific man is going to help the Islamic Republic fulfill their nuclear ambitions. So, who cares?

  1. Kaman.
I have a doubt.Vladimir Putin and his attendant are in the plane at the time the photo was taked. Is or not the plane part of the russian territory under IR diplomatic rules?
Anyway I agree with you that some details could be ignored to the help man.

Kamangir: Well, yes and no. They are on the staircase which is “a part of Iran”.

  2. Mind you, if you were used to Iranian women and their feminism all day, and then suddenly encountered beautiful Russian ladies, you too would “bend” Sharia’a, LOL.

I hope my wife does not see this!

  3. Also, it should be known, when it comes to obtaining money and power, most religious people (Iranians included) seem to forget all about religion! The fake Jews of Israel are the prime example of this, as Orthodox Jews follow the ruling that no Jews can inhabit the land of Palestine until the Day of Judgement Yaum E Qayamah!

  4. Oh, MiM, you ignoramus. There were (and still are) several beliefs on the matter, as Judaism is by far not a homogeneous and stagnated religion. Some believe that only the Jewish Messiah will allow true Jewish sovereignity in the Land of Israel. Some believe that a very large Jewish population in the Holy Land, accompanied by several miracolous events, are a precursor to the coming of the Messiah, and that Jewish sovereignity is Ithalta De’Geula, the Beginning of the Salvation.

The rest are not that bothered by either extreme, and all of this is the Orthodox Jewish community that I speak of, and to which I belong.

Notice that none of above contradicts Jews living here. Jews have always lived here. Even the Neturei-Karta fanatics (who are hated entirely by the Orthodox Jewish community, and whom who you erronously take as the “True Jews”) live here. The central debate among Jews is not about having a state, it’s about how such a state should be run. Some would like a more theocratic approach. Others see democracy as the only political system that has allowed Jews their freedom to worship freely, and fear that theocracy would do little more than pervert the faith to political ends, and make it hated.

Don’t try to tell me what my religion is, MiM. Jews have debated and studied the Jewish faith for millenia, and yet few, if any, would declare what you declared with such certainty. If you want to believe that 0.1% of Jews in the world are the True Jews, while other 99.9% are Evil Jews, then you are in desperate need of help.

Also, in case you didn’t notice, we don’t live in a theocracy here. The state doesn’t act based on what religious leaders dictate. So please, leave your rather lame comparisons to your like-minded fanatical friends.

  8. Leo, it’s because some reasonable and intelligent people think like him due to have had no impartial source of information. In his particular case, I now think that there is no hope whatsoever, and only reply to stop his flow of disinformation and outright lies.

That, and I must admit that I’m easy to bait and anger. Too argumentative for my own good…

  9. Roman,

People like MIM always have to try and get in a jab at Jews/Israel when they can.

Maybe she wasn’t required to ‘dress properly’ was because she was still on the plane (as someone above mentioned). But the fact that it was published in an Iranian newspaper is significant!

  10. Paki Muslim From India (Musliman of Mumbai) keep own religious opinions to yourself. The sooner that Iranians realise that Islam is an arab religion and has no place in Iran and get rid of it the better. Let men and women everywhere touch each other … what business is it of yours or anyone else when two people touch … you are sick.

  11. Roman Kalik @ 8,

I understand your point. However in this particular case MiM’s post was so obviously biased that no thinker would take it seriously. I am even willing to bet that MiM actually achieved totally opposite effect. Hatred is self-destructing.

  12. i may say it is time to ban the musslman mumbai!
he’s presenting the severe islamic oppresive reputation!

Kamangir: I apologize for his foolish behavior. I will delete any offensive material he posts.

  13. “Hatred is self-destructing.”

It would be nice if that was true, but more often hatred leads to the destruction of others. Evil, hate-filled people often live to a good old age and die peacefully in their beds, while the lands around them are filled with the graves of their victims.

  14. Roman (in post 4), what a TIGHT response. Hat’s off to you!

    It is my hope.

  16. *bows* Much obliged, Orville.

Leo, when good men do nothing, evil prevails. It may consume itself later on, but it also consumes many of those living at its sufferance.

    Comment by Roman Kalik — October 17, 2007 @ 2:18 pm

  17. Roman, you hit it right on the head with your last comment about evil consuming itself – but it destroys a lot of people until it does! We have to minimize that destruction until it self-destructs!

“when good men do nothing, evil prevails. It (hate) may consume itself later on, but it also consumes many of those living at its sufferance.”

I think it is way too much credit for likes of poor MiM. He is not necessarily harmless but he is powerless. His big mouth is all he’s got.

    Comment by leo — October 17, 2007 @ 8:58 pm

  20. Heh, Leo, I wasn’t thinking about MiM when I wrote that. It was more of a general statement, really.

    Comment by Roman Kalik — October 17, 2007 @ 10:41 pm

  21. In any case MiM shouldnt be banned. Let him say what he likes. This blog shouldnt become like the Islamic Republic. MiM serves to remind us all of the sick mindset that has raveged and raped Iran these past 25 years.

Kamangir: You are right. I apologize. I’ll keep deleting swears, in case he keeps using more.

  22. Roman Kalik @ 20,

I know. I was also puzzled by disconnect. Probably because of my “Hatred is self-destructing” comment. I’ll try to keep on the subject next time.

    Rostam Farrokhzad @ 21,

    “MiM shouldnt be banned”

    I agree.

Kamangir: He will not be banned. It was a hasty response, sorry.
