The Sudanese government realized the potential backlash for a country already viewed as genocidal, and as a former theocracy the current dictatorship probably saw the problem of giving in to what the fanatics want. But there is no state that cares about the women of Iran... Least of all Iran's own rulers. Indeed, Chaya, indeed… Ms. Gibbons had a state that cared about her, and used diplomatic pressure to try and get her out.
