Iran: Islamic Militia attacks Reformist Newspaper Office

Kamangir | January 1, 2008 | Category Human Rights, Iran, Islamic Republic

shaltookkar02.JPGIslamic militia and Basij members attacked the office of a reformist newspaper in Shiraz, Iran. The attackers destroyed the equipments and injured the staff. The incident followed a clash between the Sharia Police and people in front of the office of Today’s Analysis (Persian: تحلیل روز), because its staff came to their windows and watched the scene and the offenders thought they had taken pictures. Thus, they attacked the office to destroy the evidence. It was later known that the photographers of the newspaper were not in the office at the moment.

During the attack, the four male staff members present in the scene tried to defend their female colleagues. One of the men was injured on his cheek and was transfered to hospital [Persian Source].
