In the past month and half, many students from different cities and universities have been arrested, on charges related to holding peaceful ceremonies for the celebration of the 7th of November, the National Day for Students. They have been behind the bars since. During these days, their families have not been able to visit them and only some of them have been given the chance to have short phone calls with the inmates. This has caused a lot of anxiety and tension for the families and has resulted in their many protests in order to pressure the government to release the students, to no avail.

We honor the freedom-loving students of Iran, some of whom are also bloggers, and thus on January 30th we rename our blogs to “Bloggers’ Solidarity with Imprisoned Iranian Students”.

We wish the release of our friends.

  3. Shari’a! Is THIS what we want?…

Shari’a in action – see it for yourself
This is what shari’a – Islamic law – is all about. Both in theory and in practice, shari’a is inimical to the US Constitution. Shari’a is inimical to the freedoms that are valued and trea…

  5. At a time when the Islamic Dictartorship continues to murder, torture and imprison Iranian students, it is obscene thata British University coninues to act as a platform for the Islamic Dictatorship to disseminate its propaganda.

  6. Tell Rosatm

Will you do the same on Israel, Saudi Arabia and other your “friendly” dictator and war criminals having their “cultural” events at British universities?

You cowards have nothing to do with those courageous Iranian students inside Iran.

  7. Further to the earlier comment, through the efforts of a Iranian bloggers, spearheaded by Potkin Azahmehr and activists and true British liberals the Islamic Republic’s Propaganda stunt has been cancelled by SOAS – and some much needed attention has been given to the cause of imprisoned Iranian students. No small thanks to Kamangir for bringing the list of imprisoned studenst to out attention.

A small yet very real victory of teh Islamic Dictatorship.

  8. Amir e Arab

Sorry to dissapoint you but it looks like the Islamic Dictatorship has lost out this time – it is you that has nothing to do with the brave students of Iran. Why dont you try and stick to Saudi Arabia where you belong.

    Comment by Rostam Farrokhzad — February 8, 2008 @ 5:34 pm

  9. I have no problem with being Arab. But lets hope that your fellow students in Iran are not as RACIST as you are.
It’s very illuminating to know that the only reason behind your disagreement with the Iranian regime is your racialized anti-Arab sentiment.

    Kamangir: I am anti-Arab?
