Another bizarre scene taken at the rallies held for the celebration of the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Republic. The text on the puppet reads “Death to America, Death to Israel”. The resemblance to the recent crane-executions is striking.

That’s quite revolting in my view, and encourages a very specific and literal kind of thinking in those who were meant to see this at the rally.
Whoever set up that crane knew what he was doing, and I don’t like it one bit. Death propaganda, and little better.

Between this and the actual hangings of people from cranes (homosexuals, alcoholics ect.) I wonder if they know that cranes can actually be used for constructing things. A gasoline refinery for instance. It might be nice if a nation with as much fossil fuel as Iran could make some of it into gasoline to avoid gas shortages.
But I am sure that this is just another of those famous Middle Eastern/North African/Western Mullah translation errors. It is actually a publicity stunt to sell disco clothes and in the Persian language it is easy to mistake “buy some groovy threads” for “death to Israel and America”. It is all about where one puts the emphasis on the vowels.
